But while it's something that most couples aspire to, sharing a home together isn't always the blissful experience that rom-coms would have you believe.
Rather, as they realise that their person has brought with them their worst habits, even the greatest bleeding hearts can find themselves wishing they hadn't been so welcoming.
While no one is perfect, there are certain traits that will, over time, grate more than others, leaving even the most patient of partners gritting their teeth - as these hilarious pictures collated by Bored Panda reveal.
The dishwasher is, of course, an obvious battleground for couples. For some, stacking is an art that requires forethought, time and finesse but, for others - like one half of a couple from Colorado - it's a boring chore to be dealt with as quickly as possible.
